Portrait of Tamilkumaran

About Me

I’m Tamilkumaran, a multidisciplinary artist and designer working across graphic design, illustration, motion, sound, and research. My practice is rooted in observation and experimentation, often drawing from everyday experiences, cultural contexts, and personal memory. I’m particularly interested in translating these observations into visual and sensory outcomes, moving fluidly between analogue and digital processes. Through my work, I explore how design can reveal, question, and reinterpret the systems and narratives embedded in daily life.

My practice is multidisciplinary, moving across graphic design, illustration, motion, sound, and research. I approach each project as a process of observation and experimentation, often beginning with everyday experiences, cultural contexts, or personal memory. Rather than working within a single medium, I choose forms based on what best expresses the idea, shifting between analogue and digital methods. My work focuses on translating these observations into visual and sensory outcomes, exploring how design can reveal, question, and reinterpret the systems and narratives embedded in daily life.

  • Illustration and image-making
  • Photography and observation
  • Analogue materials and raw textures
  • Motion, sound, and visual rhythm
  • Graphic design and experimental layouts

I prefer working in calm, focused environments where I can think clearly and explore ideas without unnecessary pressure. I don’t rush into outcomes, I take time to observe, experiment, and let the process evolve naturally. I’m more interested in understanding the idea deeply and responding to it thoughtfully, rather than forcing quick results. My approach values consistency, curiosity, and working at a pace that allows the work to develop meaningfully.

Illustration, painting, photography, sound recording, graphic design, motion, and creative coding all feed into the same larger practice for me.

I’m interested in work that feels tactile, imperfect, and alive, where process and emotion stay visible.
